16Oct Avoiding Slow Ubuntu Updates
With Ubuntu’s 7.10 release by this Thursday, as usual, everyone will what to update to this new version, as soon as it appears as available. To avoid a very slow update, I recommend you to update your systems right now to the development version which is now fully stable, since little is left to do in this last two days.
To do this, just open a terminal and type:
sudo update-manager -d

I’m so tempted to perform the upgrade now. However, I’ve waited this long and a couple more days isn’t going to kill me. How’s that for self-discipline?
I know your post makes sense though and I should avoid the mad rush and resulting slow servers — I just can’t bring myself to do it. It would be like opening all my presents on Christmas eve!

Better yet … just wait a couple of days after the release. Not only will you avoid the rush and the slow servers, but you’ll have the benefit of any last minute fixes they had to apply for issues that were only discovered after the masses began to upgrade.
Delayed gratification is its own reward.
