Although, I felt no need to write about it on this blog, meaning one thing: I’m officially putting this aside. Microblogging is taking my social internet time and I’ll only keep this blog online for history purposes. Altough, if I ever feel the need to, I’ll be back to it and to writing again!

This past 3 days I was at Codebits. That, I have to say, was one of the best tech conferences I’ve ever been.

In the first day, the workshops were really interesting, and quick enough to never get boring, so that we could jump right to the next one, keeping it always interesting.

Second day, after 6 hours sleeping at Living Loung Hostel (recommended), we’ve arrived just in time of learning from Mitch Altman about his Tv-B-Gone and how to stick with an idea until we can make it come true. He’s a truly inspiring person, maybe one of the most interesting workshop there, despites not being technical at all. He also had a place were he was teaching people on how to make you’re on tv-b-gone and other gadgets.

After lunch, the hacking begun. Along with some friends, we’ve started hacking a web platform for creating and managing journeys. The idea came from the bus travel, were we’ve thought that it could be nice to plan a travel online, with some guidance on means of transportation and points of interest to see. The ideas started to flow, but the time to implement was short, so you’ve managed to create a nice prototype, using SAPO services for getting information and twitter for status updates and a couple more of things. Only later we’ve leaned that the idea of the contest was way far from that, there was no need to actually have something operational, so the project didn’t get much notice, but we’ve learned a lot from it.

We’ll back next year  for sure:)

The story is still very similar to the book, Dan Brown’s masterpiece, which I’ve also read and loved. The soundtrack scores high points in creating a suspense environment. Well, no spoilers here, just try it yourself.

A must watch for everyone.

Angels & Demons

It was awesome! It started with two supporting bands, but the sound was really lousy, despites that, the music was nice. I admit that I was really surprised when Jason came out, the sound was way better for them. He played musics from both his latest albums, and even though I only knew the last one, I was completely thrilled with all the songs.

He’s an hell of a performer, the show is well thought, and everyone had a smile on their faces after the show. For thoses who have have the opportunity to attend one of his concerts, don’t hesitate, it rocks!

Also, after testing my SSH keys, I’ve found out that they were vulnerable due to a patch in Debian, which made the random number generator guesseable. If you’re running a ssh-server, in a Debian-based distribution, you should test if your keys are compromised.

It was a nice dinner, and it is always good to get to know better the ones behind the emails or posts out there.

Before leaving, we’ve had an open-gift exchange. Everyone was supposed to bring something, like some code, a picture, an image, anything. Since I’ve forgot to print it, I’ll share here the little ncurses based application I’ve wrote to share. Download, compile it with g++ -lncurses xmas2007.cpp and run it with ./a.out. Merry Xmas.

The show is awesome, the speed is considerably high, but, by being that close to the planes, the adrenaline is felt in everyone who’s watching. I can only imagine how unique it must be to ride with one of those pilots, while looping through the skies!

Unfortunately, I’ve only managed to watch the final part of the show, but, for sure, I’ll be there earlier next year, since the returning of the air race as already been confirmed!

Unfortunately, everything that’s good, comes to an end, and this summer is about to end to me! It was spent between Apulia, Esposende, in the north, with my parents, and Alvor, Algarve, where I’ve camped with some friends (we’ve been kicked back home due to heavy rain).

Now I’m about to start studying to a September exam that I’ll obligatory have to past in order to finish all my courses from the past year! I’ll also be probably more active in my blog, hope someone’s still reading!
